Preparing for IELTS at Scarborough International School


To prepare for IELTS you need to book a 28 hours course, for a minimum duration of one month, you can book for any number of weeks in excess of this if you wish.

The Academic modules are appropriate for those applying for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Administered by UCLES on behalf of the British Council, it is an internationally recognised exam for testing English Language competence. It is accepted by many British Universities and Colleges as a measure of ability, they usually state the Band they require for entry.

Candidates receive scores on a Band Scale from 1-9 for each part of the exam:- Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, as well as an overall Band Score.

  1. = Non User
  2. = Intermittent User
  3. = Extremely Limited User
  4. = Limited User
  5. = Modest User
  6. = Competent User
  7. = Good User
  8. = Very Good User
  9. = Expert User.

The results are usually available within two weeks. IELTS is not recommended for candidates under the age of 16.

IELTS Examination Dates
This test is available most weeks throughout the year. Please note that we do need good notice if you have a specific date in mind. Two months notice should be regarded as a minimum, while three months notice is recommended for the busy summer months.
