General English - Age: 16+

4 hrs per day General English (mornings, Mon-Fri)
Classes concentrating on the four language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, together with remedial grammar. Vocabulary and everyday language are key components of the programme. Course content is negotiated with students, who will explore a particular topic or theme, becoming actively engaged in the language.
Intensive General English - Age: 16+

+ 2 hrs per day General English (afternoons, Mon-Thurs)
Full-day course for those wishing to develop further their communicative skills.
Intensive IELTS Examination Preparation- Age: 16+

+ 2 hrs per day IELTS examination preparation (afternoons, Mon-Thurs)
A course aimed at maximising IELTS results. Students may join at any point during the course. There are 4 lessons in the morning concentrating on the four language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, together with remedial grammar. In the afternoon there is intensive practice for the examination, with practice tests and step-by-step examples of how to answer examination questions.
Intensive Combination - Age: 16+

4 hrs per day General English (mornings, Mon-Fri)
+ 2 hrs per day 1:1 tuition (afternoons, Mon-Thurs)
A chance to combine general English morning classes with one-to-one tuition, tailor-made to suit the individual learning needs of the student. Options may include General English, Business English, IELTS Examination Preparation or English for Specific Purposes such as; English for Medicine, Lawyers or Human Resources.
Intensive Business Combination - Age: 18+

4 hrs per day General English (mornings, Mon-Fri)
+ 2 hrs per day 1:1 Business English (afternoons, Mon-Thurs)
4 lessons in the morning concentrating on the four language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, together with remedial grammar. In the afternoon the emphasis is on helping students to improve their business English communication skills. Lessons concentrate on speaking activities in a business context. Tasks are practical and students are encouraged to relate course content to their own business experience.
1:1 English for Specific Purposes - All ages

Classes tailored to individual needs which may include General English, Business English, IELTS Examination Preparation or English for Specific Purposes such as; English for Medicine, Lawyers or Human Resources.

Adult Vacation - Age: 16+

4 hrs per day General English (mornings, Mon, Tues, Wed & Fri)
+ 2 hrs per day General English (afternoons, Mon, Tues & Wed)
+ 1 full-day excursion (Thurs)
Suitable for those who wish to improve their English while enjoying the attractions that the area has to offer. An intensive full day course from Monday to Wednesday, a full-day excursion on Thursday, plus morning classes on Friday.

Teen Vacation - Age: 13-17yrs

4 hrs per day General English (mornings, Mon, Tues, Wed & Fri)
+ 3 afternoon activities per week (Mon, Tues & Wed)
+ 2 evening activities per week (Mon & Wed)
+ 1 full-day excursion (Thurs)
A course aimed at motivating and engaging teenagers by making language learning enjoyable. The course combines project-based teaching with outcomes negotiated with students. There is one full day excursion and a packed programme of sports and activities.
Available on selected dates in April, June, July and August

Junior Vacation - Age: 7-12yrs

4 hrs per day General English (mornings, Mon, Tues, Wed & Fri)
+ 3 afternoon activities per week (Mon, Tues & Wed)
+ 1 full-day excursion (Thurs). Junior students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian on all full day excursions. Special arrangements apply to unaccompanied juniors.
A course aimed at motivating and engaging juniors by making language learning enjoyable. The course is project-based and includes a full day excursion and a packed programme of sports and activities. Children aged under 13 are accompanied by a teacher on all afternoon activities from 2-4pm, leaving parents free to join the Adult Vacation course.

Day Care for children - Age: 0-6yrs

While you study your child/children will be placed at a local child care centre, within walking distance of the school, together with English children. The centre operates flexible hours enabling you to leave your child/children in the morning before lessons and pick up your child/children after lessons or activities in the afternoon. Care is provided by qualified child care professionals. Note: for this service Scarborough International School of English acts as an agent for the centre which observes the Children’s/Young Persons’ Act 2008.
Children on this course must be accompanied to and from the centre each day by a parent or guardian.

CLIL School Groups - Age: 13+
AC8
A course for school groups incorporating CLIL lessons based on the English National Curriculum. The emphasis is on maximising student involvement in the language by engaging them in thought-provoking activities and projects. We aim to make the classes interactive and stimulating, while building students’ confidence when communicating in English.
Availability: Jan-May 2012, Sept-Dec 2012
Closed groups (Minimum 12 students)

We took our students down to the Foreshore in the afternoon to let them experience how Shrove Tuesday is celebrated in the traditional Scarborough way – skipping on the beach. It is believed that its origins lie in the local fishermen sorting their ropes and nets out at this time of year – they would give the children the ones which were no good for fishing. An afternoon of physical exertion was finished off with some well-earned fish'n'chips on the seafront.
